The Swedish Model – Still getting ready for Autumn…

I would just love a new bag. Like the Fashionable Mama I am, I have loads of bags, but I can never get too many. It’s probably some sort of addiction, I have tried to get rid of it but don’t seem I can.

For the past few weeks I have been using a black slouchie bag from Cynthia Rowley. I bought it in Dublin some 5 years ago or so, in the sale at Brown Thomas. Didn’t think much of it then but I has been quite useful during the past year. It’s a great size. But I think now is the time to move on. Sure it’s great, I can fit lots of stuf in it, make-up bag, wallet, brush, newspaper and even my laptopo if I have too.  Now is the time that it goes back in the box for a few months/maybe a year until I wear it again.

So where will my new favourite bag coem from…

Recently I came across this label called The Swedish Model, TSM. They describe themselves as ”a lifestyle collection of accessories for men and women, which embodies the style and spirit of its founders Carl Hederoth, Charlotta Rosenblad and Boris Bencic”

I love how they have shaped their vision around a set of values which they feel define Swedish-ness:

  • Sweden is beautiful
  • Sweden is fair
  • Sweden is a personal experience

Aren’t these bags extra ordinary!?

Black, Grey or perhaps tan. Watch this space, one of these days!

My new coat, a Frock Coat from Zara!

I am on a budget right now, I’ve intended not  to spend too much on myself and instead try to save some monies for the future.

In the past month I have been so good, most things that I have purchased have been for Pixie, hardly anything for myself.  I found a knitted cardigan at Monki a couple of weeks ago but it didn’t last long. I had to return it last weekend. It was torn at the pockets after just two times wearing it.

But yesterday I couldn’t help myself. I found this Frock Coat at Zara two weeks ago when I bought a nw jacket for my little Pixie. It is such a cool jacket, and I am sure I’ll get lots of wear out of it this Autumn. with jeans, trousers, skirts and dresses. I am so thrilled with it. Can’t wait til tomorrow when I am going to wear it for the first time.

All I need now are the trousers, these are ”skinny studio” trousers.

Inspired by Fall – here’s to Filippa!

I have been wearing Filippa K since app. 1998, as I lived in Ireland at the time, it took me some time to discover her. In Sweden she’d been around since 1993, when Filippa Knutsson and her partners sought to bring sophistication and simplicity to contemporary fashion.(last bit from wiki)

They’re still going strong spreading their Swedish minimalist urban elegance across the world. I am a huge fan and tend to buy at least one piece from each collection. This summer I was wearing my long-sleeve white and black stripe top at least once a week. It’s now so worn I may need to consider getting rid of it. (on a second throught, NO. It’ll do here at home).

Last winter I bought an amazing black knit dress, which I wore with a By Malene Birger jacket, at least once a week for a couple of months. I’ve just taken it out again, and I can’t wait for the weather to get that little bit cooler so that I can wear it again.

From the Autumn/Winter 2011 collection I have found three items that I am dying to get my hands on. A Classic Coat, a Butterfly Chiffon Tunic, and a Handknit Pullover.

Fall to pieces….

It’s time to get hyped up for Autumn, ready to face the cold & rain, but also into gear and prepared to hit Winter, Swedish style.

I’ve picked out a few pieces that I will let influence my wardrobe this Autumn/Winter 2011-2012. The first piece I’ve picked is from House of Dagmar, a young Swedish fashion company which was launched in the Spring of 2005, an Aline hand knitted alpaca cardigan, in a lovely rusty colour. I am teaming this with a pair of black pants from Burberry prorsum, a lovely black leather bag from Miu Miu  and a pair of cool ankle booties. These are called Crazy horse  and are by Gardenia  and you can find them at Tjallamalla.com I just ordered them, couldn’t help myself!

Getting ready for Autumn - Swedish Style

Dagmar is huge in Sweden, but their arty chic style has been widely recognised by the fashion industry as well as the press throughout the rest of Europe, United States and Asia and they have received several prestigious awards. The company is run jointly by three sisters – all with notable background within Swedish and international fashion industry. The principal source of inspiration – and muse – is the sisters’ late grandmother by the name Dagmar. She was herself a tailor and inspired the sisters to develop their interest for fabrics and design at young age.

Here’s the awards they can brag with;

  • 2005 – Rookie of the year, by the Swedish Fashion Council
  • 2005 – Garbohatten, an award in the name of Greta Garbo, by the Swedish dep. store PUB
  • 2006 – Best new designer of the year, by Swedish Elle magasine
  • 2007 – Dagmar was awarded a fashion show by Gen Art-NY during New York Fashion Week
  • 2008 – Nominated to Best designer of the year, by Swedish Elle magasine
