Sleeping and eating!

Stressing down has been the theme for me this holiday and with two weeks off (one week to go) I am really beginning to wind down.  I can’t remember the last time I slept so much, I am sleeping in until at least 9.00-9.30 each morning and I have been able to drift off for a snooze nearly every evening. True, we go to bed quite late in the evening but spending time on the sofa watching a soppy movie isn’t really draining.

This year we have decided to stay at home, like last year and the year before that. Since moving back to Sweden I have made sure we don’t have to travel at Christmas. I spent 15 years travelling every Christmas, living out of a suitcase and not being able to completely relax. To me the best thing in the world is staying at home for Christmas. Having breakfast in our jammies and happy family dinners with my husband and daughter.

Unfortunately we haven’t had much snow this year and we haven’t been spending much time indoors, but lately we’ve headed in to our old stomping ground in Vasastan to go ice skating.

Christmas Outfits

This year I have relaxed on the whole Christmas outfit frenzy I normally go through in the weeks leading up to the holidays. With a fairly arduous job schedule there wasn’t much time for planning and as I had already done some shopping earlier I decided to make it safe and easy.

Comfort was my main priority when I picked these outfits and main staples in my wardrobe they have become. Let me tell you about a couple of the items below.

1. My darling black jacket from By Malene Birger,  purchased from the Malene Birger shop on Biblioteksgatan earlier in October.

2. My FAB Afva Attling earrings, Petal, given to me by my husband for Christmas years ago, but a favourite.

3. My new By Malene Birger paisley dress, bought espceially for our conferennce in Nov, but perfect for a comfy Christmas Day outfit, paired with Falke cotton tights (the only tights I can wear).

Christmas Day

much has happpened and now it’s a new year!

This Autumn has been one of the most stressful times in a long while. Now looking back on everything it seems like not much, but when I was in the midst of it, it was hard to cope.

I was ill for several months during the Autumn, a really bad chest infection that wouldn’t go away coupled with a ruptured eardrum. Selling our home and buying our new home, followed by moving. Changing pre-schools and a new routine for my little Pixie Boo was probably harder on us, our little girl just got on with things. Work was tougher than usual too.

But now that we have celebrated Chistmas and New Year with the family and have had some time to just relax I feel ready to take on 2013.

With my husband and my daughter by my side I am ready for anything!

Busy, busy, busy…

I have been so busy this week, trying to get everything done in work ahead of next week’s presentations. I have four to do in total, 3 client presentations and one seminar. There are also numerous client start-ups that I am trying to get off the ground, and the work ahead of our awards ceremony in March. Busy, busy, busy.

To top it all Pixie hasn’t been well, she’s got another chest infection poor little thing.  I nearly rushed off to get her from pre-school on Tuesday, she had been complaining about a sore tummy and wasn’t her usual perky self.  But Mark was able to get her, and thank god for that I had so much to do that day.

I finally managed to get some Bikram in last night  so now I am beginning to feel a little slimmed again, it’s amazing how bloated Christmas made me. Alright, I failed my detox miserably but I am drinking more water and green tea, getting the fruit and vege in, and the exercise. (I am Awesome!)

Today I’ve had a very successful introductory meeting with the new CEO of one of my clients.  I decided to wear my black COS dress, with a By Malene Birger jacket and my green cashmere scarf. So comfy and business-like at the same time. Score! Friday 20th Jan - Business Meeting

For the next 21 days!

Ok, it’s been decided, I doing a detox. Tomorrow, when it’s back to the grind properly with work and the daily pre-school drop-off in the morning, I’m restarting 2012 with Clense Detox for 21 days.

I haven’t done a proper detox for quite some time now so I intend to give my body a slow n’ easy start. I’ll be planning my first detox in 3 instalments of 7 days each, in total 21 days. (Duh!)

The main goal with this detox is to clense my body from all the caffein, sugar, alchol and free radicals that have settled within it for the past month. Christmas was great and I truly enjoyed all the goodies but my body needs a break. I need to feel good again.

Right now my skin is awful, I feel bloated most of the time and I am also drained from the lack of lseep lately. I have been quite down for the past few days and I have had it.

It’s time for a change. I am AWSOME!

For the next 7 days…

  • Drink more water
  • Give up coffee, drink green tea instead
  • Reduce sugar intake
  • No Alcohol, for a month (already off it for a week)
  • Bikram, 2 sessions

A good night sleep and a cup of coffee

A good night sleep is what I needed and it’s what I got, thank God for that! Yesterday my cold came back with a vengance and I was knocked out for the entire evening. Didn’t stop me from staying up to watch Twilight – New Moon though. Yes, this is quite a silly/stupid story but it’s very addictive. I refused to see it when it was in the cinema and that was probably the right decision but I know that I won’t be able to give the third (and final?) episode a miss. I do hope it’s on TV soon.

I have been needing a good night sleep for a while now. During Christmas we didn’t get good sleep at all due to Pixie’s coughing and for the past few nights my sleep has been awful or even non-existant. I have let this whole summer holiday planning really get to me this year. I don’t know why I get so stressed about the whole thing.

I have already managed to book a trip to Turkey and to cancel it. I really don’t know why I do this to myself. Now I am considering a two week trip to Greece, one week on a small island in a self-contained apartment followed by one week at an All-inclusive-resort-type-place. The best of two worlds, hopefully!

Today I am giving the planning business a rest, so far I have had a lovely breakfast with my family and now I am going to have another cup of coffee and read the new paper. Later we’ll head out to the park for some skating. It’s a cold winter’s day in Stockers!

Where will we be this summer? I welcome any ideas you may have!

Here’s me and Pixie in Portugal 2010 and Greece 2011. Where to next?

so glad I took an extra day off work…

It’s been a tough week so far. I have been back in work for three days this week, and it’s been unusually hard to get back into the swing of things. It’s amazing how quickly you get used to doing nothing.

Pixie has been sick for nearly three weeks now and she is getting better, but very slowly. But as she wasn’t feeling very well during Christmas last week just went by without us achieving anything substantial. We stayed at home most of the days, apart from the odd walk or short outing. I had planned to do lots of different things during our Christmas break but none of what I had planned happened. That is why I am so happy I took an extra day off this week, cos normally I am back in work on the Monday after New Year’s.

I took Monday off so that we could have some time together and do stuuf, and I think I was quite efficient. Immediately after breakfast we made the last gingerbreads and shortbreads. I have kept the two doughs in the fridge since last week so they were a little dry but we turned out some really nice biscuits. Pixie was in her element and was delighted to offer her Papi some to taste afterwards.

After we had finished baking I came to think of a play that is showing at Boulevardteatern on Götgatan here in Stockholm, a kids show called ”Hur långt når Alfons?”  I dressed Pixie and we headed over to Södermalm to see the show at 14.00. The show was brilliant. Alfons Åberg is a very popular childrens’ book character since I am a child and Pixie knew exacyly who he was. You can catch some of his vids on YouTube.

Mark met up with us on St.Eriksplan, we headed for Birkastan’s Pizza for a family dinner before we headed home for a movie and some popcorn. Overall a wonderful day with my little girl!

Happy New Year!

We have just enjoyed a new year’s dinner here at home in our kitchen. No going out for us this year, Pixie isn’t properly well yet so we are chillin at home. But we did dress up. Pixie is in her red Christmas dress and I wore my trusted LBD from Press & Bastyan, a cardigan from House of Dagmar and flats from Tory Burch. Very comfy actually.

Happy New Year from all of us to all of you!

Look back at X-mas!

It’s been a wonderful month, December 2011. Filled with opportunity to spend time with the family and our little girl. Christmas is a special time of the year for me, a time when I usually always returned to Sweden from Ireland to se my mum, dad, brother and sister. Mark and I always spent at least a week in Stockholm, either in my parents house or in a hotel in town. We used to have such a good time, shopping, eating and spending time with my family. Now I live in Stockholm for nearly 3 years and I am able to enjoy every day all year in this beautiful town and see my family whenever I want to.

One of my favourite Christmas tradition is our annual dinner out, we have Julbord at a landmark Stockholm restaurant or hotel, the whole family togheter. This year we headed to Stadshuskällaren, the restaurant in our City Hall (made famous for serving the Nobel Dinner every year).

It was so lovely to enjoy the amazing dishes, Pickled Herring; at least six or seven different kinds, Salmon; probbaly five different kinds, a few type sof eel, cold cuts of all sorts; pork, deer, beef, Meatballs, Saussages, Ribs and much more. I went back at least 5 times which is custom and I was so full afterwards.

Pixie was such a joy to bring, she loves going to restaurants and she was in her element. She didn’t give out once and had a laugh with my brother and sister.

What did I wear?! White Tuxedo jacket from Filippa K, black skinnies from Acne, black t-shirt from By Malene Birger and black boots from Gardenia.

My little Pixie isn’t feeling so well!

It’s hard to be fashionable when you spend the day in juicy couture pants and the a grey cashmere top with big holes on the elbows. I have spent the past few days at home with a little pixie with a bad cold. We’ve managed to get out for a little bit but not enough to get anything substantial done.

She has been unwell for nearly a week and a half now. She was at home with daddy every day last week to give her a rest from day-care, she seemed to improve and she had a lovely Christmas, high in spirits and a happy little girl during the day but every night an awful cough developed. I was hoping that she would begin to improve soon but nothing has happened in fact she has worsened.

Yesterday morning she woke up having spent a second night with a high temperature. We headed straight for  the Doctor’s office when we woke up. Our Doctor is Dr. Farlow, a wonderfully classy Swedish lady whom we’ve seen since we moved to Stockholm three years ago. Normally Pixie doesn’t mind going to see her but yesterday I noticed she wasn’t herself. She didn’t want to go. I had to bribe her with a new dress I had stashed away.

The visit went very well, she was examined thouroughly, ears, throat, listened to her chest and then we were sent for a blood test (a CRP). Before we headed in to see the nurse who was to take her blood test I explained to her that she was just to get a little pin prick on her finger, she got upset and said she didn’t want to have her test done.

She did so wel, sat on my lap and reached her hand out, The blood test was over in a minute. But afterwards she was so upset. When we had sat down in the waiting room she turned to me and said ”I told you I didn’t want to do a test”. I felt so bad.

Her result was 37 which indicates an inflammation, so the doctor presicribed penicillin. Poor little pixie, she was having a tough morning. She fell straight asleep with me on the sofa as we arrived home and slept for 2 hours. Safe to say all my plans for the day were cancelled, instead with chilled out at home and that was actually a treat. Mark was out for the day, washing in the morning and later to the gym.

I managed to slip out later that night to meet my friends Malin and Elin at Texas Longhorn, ribeye steak and three glases of red Shiraz did the trick.
